Last week Chinese scientists wanted to divert an asteroid away from Earth. This week, they want to pull one into orbit around the Earth. What’s possible objections could anyone have to this idea?

Good idea. And, maybe, the worst one ever considered. My main problems w/it? Not sure we’re ready to start F’in around with NEO’s yet. We lose control of it? Bad ca-ca. Well, that & who’s running this game.
The PRC have a long tradition of exploiting resources by any means necessary. Even if it means a lot of folks get screwd over in the process / in the end game. Not the best motivation in the world. Also remember; this is a government who’s not completely convinced that full scale, tactical, nuclear warfare is NOT a viable military/political option under certain circumstances. The PRC could well believe that a WWIII scenario is actually SURVIVABLE for them. Now consider the problem of radioactive fall-out that is NOT present with an, almost equally devastating, asteroid strike.
Not saying this SHOULDN’T be tried. Their are dozens of reasons it should. Including; a hollowed out asteroid w/an ice core could be used as the ‘ship’ that could get us to mars and back. I just think this needs a LOT more consideration AND, if it’s done at all, it needs to be a muti-nation mission.
